Update: Tampering with C3SVS Supplies

To the TMU and TMSU community,

As some may know, concerning videos were posted recently on Instagram, some of which show an individual poking holes in condoms from our self-serve condom dispenser in the Student Community Centre. TMSU and C3SVS find the actions in the video egregious and unacceptable. C3SVS is founded on the basis of safer sex, menstrual and reproductive health for all.

We thank the members of the TMU community and partners who have reached out to alert us to said situation. Your efforts are greatly appreciated in our efforts to maintain consent culture on campus.

Since being made aware of these videos, C3SVS launched an investigation which has concluded the following (pending the cooperation of TMU security):

• An individual was present in the SCC after hours, obtaining condoms from our free dispenser. 
• Said individual posted several videos of said condoms, threatening to and eventually poking holes in condoms to tamper with the product 
• Said individual has not returned to the SCC and did not place tampered condoms in our condom dispenser
• Said individual is not a student of TMU, and should not have been authorized to be in spaces such as the SCC on campus, after hours. 

The alleged actions were acts of sexual violence which threatened to violate the bodily autonomy of our community members. We take this seriously, and discourage anyone from performing acts of sexual violence for clout or attention. We also encourage the TMU community to hold their fellow students and community members responsible for their actions by calling in any and all forms of sexual violence they see on campus, including jokes about violent acts. 

At this time, we unfortunately cannot, in good faith, allow for the safe distribution of condoms in open, unmonitored spaces. Although the condoms from the dispenser were not tampered with, any remaining product was discarded to mitigate any risk and abide by our strict C3SVS safety standards. We have also temporarily suspended restocking the dispenser pending a review of the situation and potential actions against the individual(s) involved. Students are welcome to pick condoms from the wall inside the C3SVS office or place an order at c3svs.ca, where trained staff members provide products and resources to a high standard of health and safety.

We understand that situations like this can negatively impact students who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing sexual violence. C3SVS is here for you.
